Yaruma

The world of Yaruma is inhabited by many diffrent creatures, who fight over the domination of the land. They all have diffrent abilities and needs, but over time they also grew closer and mixed together. They share cities and countries, trade with each other and use their individual skills to hepl each other.

Eventually it was decided to build a whole city together. A city that didn’t belong to or was ruled by one race but shared equally by all.
The perfect place for such a city was the island Yaruma, in the middle of the four continents, where all diffrent kinds of habitats existed.
Humans, dwarves, elves, dragons, mermaids and all kinds of people coexist there together and live peacefully.

Lohir

There have always been tensions between those who can use magic and those who can’t. But since humans arrived in the world, this disapproval has hardened especially in those who reject magic.
The morai, a group that has dedicated itself to the anihilation of all magic, was founded by humans, but found followers of many diffrent races. When the believes of the morai started to spread across the world, they also came to Yaruma.
A fraction of morai formed among the non magic people of Kanmaris, who started to rise against the mages of the city. It came to riots which lead to a separation.

Lohir was founded by the morai of Yaruma, who left Kanmaris to build their own city. But the conflicts with Kanmaris didn’t stop. Both cities want prevalence over Yaruma and there were many fights between the citizens of the two cities.
During the time of darkness, Lohir couldn’t protect itself through magic and had to move underground. Since Lohir was build above an old, abandoned city of the dwarves, it wasn’t to much of a problem to move everyone to savety in time.

Since then Lohir is an underground city, carved into the stone and lit by the clever  technology of the dwarves.
All kinds of diffrent creatures live here in peace, but magic is strictly forbidden. Mages and those associated with them are prosecuted without mercy. Priests are not very welcome either, especially since the war against the gods.

Lohir is controlled by the morai and ruled by the leader of all morais, the General.

Important Places

Market
The market is a circular place in the eastern quarters of the city. Local merchants have their stalls their, where they sell their goods. Everything a citizen of Lohir needs for his daily life can be found here from fruits and vegetables, pastries and herbs over freshly butchered meat to clothing, furniture, jewellery, tools and weapons. Numerous little shops and businesses follow on the stalls towards the center of the city.

Smithies
The smithies are located in the eastern outskirts of the city, right next to the market. They were built by the dwarves, when those built the city and thus are very impressiv and huge. There are bustling activities here, from dawn till dusk, hundred of smouldering furnaces heat the air and the dull beating of hundred of hammers can be heard.

Silver square
The silver square is a circular space located exactly in the middle of Lohir, surrounded by the market. It has its name from the silver pillar in the center of the square on which scenes from the history of the dwarves are engraved. There is also a stone fountain with gargoyles and statues and a little tribune. On this tribune the emperor of the city can make a speech on holidays and gatherings and artists, poets, showmen and bards can perform.

Tavern “The Golden Anvil“
The tavern is a popular meeting place for the locals near the city center. Food and drinks are served at every time of the day and night.
On the first and second floor, multiple small but cosy rooms can be rented by travellers.

Emperors palace
The palace of the emperor is located in the western quarters of the city, right next to the silver square. From here, the general of the morai reigns the city. The huge, oblong building is made from red stone and is a landmark of dwarven craftsmanship. The entrance is lined with pillars and statues, which once showed famous dwarves, but where replaced by the morai with important figures of their own history.

Quarters of the morai
The quarters of the morai are located directly next to the emperors palace, north of the silver square. It is a big compound, where the headquarter of all morai in Yaruma is located. From here the commodor organises the activities of the morai in Yaruma, new morai are trained and prisoners are kept here, before executions.
Since they often bring captured mages there, the walls of the building were enforced with agate iron, therefor no magic can be used inside it.

Barracks
The barracks are located in the norther part of the city as well. They are the headquarters of the army of Lohir. From here the Admiral of the army coordinates all soldiers and the Chief organises the police.
Non-magic prisoners, who weren’t sentenced yet are brought here, the arsenal is located here and there is a restroom as well as a training space for soldiers and investigators.

Prison
The prison is of Lohir is built into the stone at the northern outskirts of the city. Small cells were cut directly into the ground of the underground city, connected by a labyrinth of narrow passages.
Conviced criminals are brought here to serve their sentence. The most dangerous criminals are held at the very back, from where there is no escape.

Gate to the surface
A broad stairway leads to a big stone gate in the southern quarters of the city. Behind the gate a rising tunnel leads to the surface.
For centuries this gate was closed and protected the citizen of Lohir from the poisonous air on the surface. Only a few weeks ago was it opened again, allowing the people to leaf the city again.
Some soldiers guard the gate and controll who leaves and enters the city.

Underground river “Lethe“
The river Lethe runs through Lohir. The dwarves who built the city, diverted the river, from the surface itno the underground. Through an elaborate system, the water is filtered and supplies Lohir with clean, drinkable water. It enters in the northwest of the city, then flows through the western and southern quarter of the city before streaming to the surface again in the southeast of the city. Small shops and apartments lead along the side of the river.

The surface
For centuries no one set foot on the ground above Lohir. The knowledge about the environment was lost and now, nobody knows what’s out there. But the first brave adventurers have already set out to rediscover the land.

New settlement
Since Yaruma is clean again, plans have been made to rebuild the city on the surface. A new settlement will be built, only a short walk from the gate away. Soon the first scaffolds will be built and in no time, the first citizens will be able to move overground.

River “Lethe“
The Lethe also runs on the surface, not far away from the city gate. On her side, the new settlment will be built.

Harbour
The new city will be built right along the riverside of the Lethe and a small harbour has already been built, to allow the first ships to travel to Lohir. Ships from all around the world shall travel the sea to visit Lohir. The biggest part of the harbour though, will be built for sky ships. Now it is only a simple platform made from wood, but soon it will have four floors, connected by stairs, ladders and a cleverly designed transportation system to transport people and all kinds of goods up and down.

Residental quarters
Lohir is built in a huge cave underground. There are normal looking houses at the ground of this cave, but also houses which have been carved into the stone at the edge of the city. Countless paths lead through the earth, lined with little doors. The further into the ground, the poorer the houses get.
