The Old Speech


The old speech is the language of the gods and the language of magic. She is most commonly used to cast spells or do magic rituals, but also in prayer and sometimes in important conversations or agreements. It is the language of truth and it can’t be used to tell lies.
It is a very powerful language.In every word lies old magic and it is rather difficult to learn how to use it correctly, or to speak it fluently. For some species it is common to teach children early on, for others it is only a language scholars learn.

Description: Written words can be read, memorised and spoken. This means, that priests can read prayers in the old speech and magicians can cast spells they learned.

Description: A broader vocabulary has been learned and a basic understanding of the grammar exists. Longer and more difficult conversations or texts can be understood.

Herbalism


The world of Yaruma is filled with many diffrent plants. Many of them can be used for cooking, or to make usefull potions or ointments. The knowledge of these herbs and flowers can be very usefull for physicians and healers, but also for merchants or soldiers.
People who are interessted in herbalism not only learn to recognize and use edible and healing plants, but also the uneatable and poisonous ones.

Description: A basic understanding of plants. exists. Edible plants can be differentiated from unedible and poisonous from non-poisonous. Well-known plants can be recognized.

Description: It is known how to harvest plants the right way and for what and how well-known plants can be used. Rarer plants can be recognized.

Stage 2


Name: Apprentice of herbalism

Description: It is known where well-known plants grow naturally and how to cultivate them and for what and how to use rarer plants.

Description: Most plants can be recognized and used. It is known how to recognize well-known plants just from taste or smell, even in potions or food. It is also known where most plants grow naturally and can be found.

Description: Every plant can be recognized just by glancing at it and it is known for what and how they plant can be used. It is known how to cultivate most plants.

Anatomy


Especially healers and physician have to have knowledge in this field, but everyone can learn about it.  Those who study anatomy, learn all about the outside and inside of the body and how it works. The functions of diffrent organs, bones and muscles, how they work and what could cause harm to them, but also how they are diffrent in diffrent species. The anatomy of a mermaid is not the same as the anatomy of an angel and a good healer or physician should know that and how to treat each.

For these abilities it is important to remember, that just because you know how to treat something, does not mean that your patient is automatically healed.  You may know how you can heal a cut, but maybe you don’t have the potions neccessary, or you don’t have enough bandage. It also doesn’t make you a wonder healer. Some wounds are just to big and some illnesses to far advanced and can only be healed by magic, if at all.

Rhetoric / Diplomacy


Students of this discipline learn all about the art of speech and diplomacy. They learn how they can convince others of their opinion, how to mediate disagreements and how to win others over with just words.

For this ability, your skill points directly affect the probability of success of your actions.
It depends on how many points you have and how many the other person has.
You add the points of your Intelligence, your dexterity and your diplomacy/rhetoric together.
Whoever has the higher number can decide how the action will go. If both have equal points, the victim can decide.

This affects things like, if you can convince someone of something, or how a speech you give comes across to the audience. When you want to mediate a fight or disagreement, the points of each character count diffrently, so you might calm one of them down but not the other.

When you have 15 or more points on acting/lying your points on intelligence count double.

Acting / Lying


Students of this discipline learn all about the art of pretending. They learn how to observe and immitade, how they can convince others of their lies and how to pretend to be someone else.

For this ability, your skill points directly affect the probability of success of your actions.
It depends on how many points you have and how many the other person has.
You add the points of your Intelligence, your dexterity and your acting/lying together.
Whoever has the higher number can decide how the action will go. If both have equal points, the victim can decide.

When you have 15 or more points on acting/lying your points on dexterity count double.
